Future Goals

A long-term goal of The Funky Foundation, with the support of Friends of Funky Foundation, is to have a scholarship-based role model school built in rural South Africa. Tuition for the school would be free, but students would have to earn a scholarship by maintaining excellent grades academically, while also exhibiting a high level of community service and leadership. We would like the school to be so great that it is the goal of every young South African to gain admission to this school.

In addition to a role model school, other goals include:

  • Improve upon Funky Camps and Funky Cups
    • All of the Funky Camps and the Funky Cup are run on an extremely low budget
      • Can only afford limited meals for attendees
      • No refreshments and only limited water is available
      • Children have nowhere to sleep except on the floor of a gymnasium or classroom without even a mattress
      • Children often play sports without any footwear
      • Many teams compete without jerseys
      • Most officials are volunteers
      • Many competitions are played without proper first aid equipment nearby
  • Donate and help poverty-stricken communities
    • Provide scholarships to deserving young children from poor townships and villages
    • Refurbish rundown and inadequate schools
    • Help orphanage centers, which deal with a large amount of children with HIV/AIDS (over 50% of orphans)
    • Donate equipment to hospitals and care centers which almost always lack the proper tools to adequately run such places
    • Start nutritious feeding centers for the thousands of children who are living on the streets alone or people who have no money for food
  • Building of proper sports facilities for poor regions
    • Will serve as sports fields for dozens of townships in each given area
      • The overwhelming majority of townships lack even a single playing field with grass
    • By giving children a place to play sports during the summer and after school, the abuse of alcohol and drugs and the number of young people having sex will decrease drastically
  • Donate and build new learning centers
    • Will serve as schools, libraries, life-orientation learning centers, career training centers, and HIV/AIDS awareness programs
    • Will be free to join and access and will have quality equipment and materials even when local schools do not
    • Can teach young children about the important aspects of growing to be an adult
    • Can train adults for various careers which will help them obtain and maintain a job
    • Will allow anyone to research and learn about the HIV/AIDS epidemic
